I support Workchoices, but the election result highlights one thing, that the legislation is dead.
The Conservatives did nothing wrong in introducing the legislation, nor in championing it. The legislation was effective and the effect beneficial to all.
But the debate over the issue has been crushed through a substantial scare campaign and it will not be possible, in the foreseeable future, for the legislation to be resurrected.
This will cost Australia dearly, but the electorate has to experience that which it has swallowed.

THE federal Coalition has abandoned all support for the controversial industrial reforms it implemented, with Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson today declaring "Work Choices is dead''.
Following a shadow Cabinet meeting today, Dr Nelson said the Liberal and National parties had listened to the messages from last month's federal election defeat.
"We respect the decision they (the Australian public) have made,'' he said in Sydney.
"Work Choices is dead.''
Dr Nelson said the package of industrial reforms was "one of the reasons'' Australians voted to change the Government.
"Work Choices as a policy, as far as the Liberal and National Parties are concerned, is dead,'' he reiterated.
At a news conference with Deputy Leader Julie Bishop, Dr Nelson said the Coalition would now scrutinise the Rudd Labor Government's scrapping of the laws to ensure it was "implemented as stated''.
