Shadow Minister for Health Jillian Skinner today said the outbreak of Vancomycin resistant enterococcus (VRE) at Royal North Shore Hospital highlights the need for the State Labor Government to improve infection control measures and publish hospital infection rates.

“The NSW Labor Government has resisted my calls to release the infection figures for many years, presumably because it’s embarrassed at what they might show,” Mrs Skinner said.

Shadow Minister for Health Jillian Skinner today said the State Labor Government must not proceed with its plan to destroy the pathology exhibition at Sydney Hospital’s Lucy Osburn-Nightingale Foundation Museum.

“Any plans the NSW Labor Government has to close any part of the Lucy Osburn-Nightingale Foundation Museum must immediately be scrapped,” Mrs Skinner said.

Labor’s attempts to change the measure of ‘crush’ loads on trains wouldn’t help commuters forced to pay higher fares for rail services that were overcrowded, unreliable and slower, NSW Opposition Leader Barry O’Farrell said today.

Shadow Minister for Health Jillian Skinner said today NSW hospital emergency departments continued to struggle with demand, with 29% of patients waiting longer than 8 hours for a hospital bed, which is the highest since the March 2007 election.

“The NSW Labor Government has failed to adequately resource the state’s emergency departments and patients are being left to pay the price," Mrs Skinner said.

The birth of a baby in the back of an ambulance on Christmas Day after she was turned away from Blue Mountains Hospital and another mother being rushed from the Blue Mountains to Westmead Hospital shows Labor’s lies are putting mothers and babies at risk, Shadow Minister for Health Jillian Skinner said today.

“The State Labor Government and the local member promised that the Blue Mountains maternity unit would never close again, but this has again proven to be more Labor lies,” Mrs Skinner said.
