Sat Nov 2nd Todays News

"US President Barack Obama views lies as legitimate political tools. He uses lies strategically to accomplish through mendacity what he could never achieve through honest means.

Obama lies in both domestic and foreign policy.

On the domestic front, despite Obama’s repeated promises that Obamacare would not threaten anyone’s existing health insurance policies, over the past two weeks, millions Americans have received notices from their health insurance companies that their policies have been canceled because they don’t abide by Obamacare’s requirements.

The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board explained that Obama’s repetition of this lie was not an oversight. It was a deliberate means of lulling into complacency these Americans who opted to buy their insurance themselves on the open market, in order to stick them with the burden of underwriting Obamacare.

In the editorialist’s words, “The [healthcare] exchanges need these customers [whose private policies are being canceled] to finance Obamacare’s balance sheet and stabilize its risk pools. On the exchanges, individuals earning more than $46,000 or a family of four above $94,000 don’t qualify for subsidies and must buy overpriced insurance. If these middle-class Obamacare losers can be forced into the exchanges, they become financiers of the new pay-as-yougo entitlement.”

Sure there is an outcry now about Obama’s dishonesty and the way he has used lying to take away from an unwilling public a right it would never have knowingly surrendered, but it is too late. There is no chance of revoking the law until at 2017, when Obama leaves office.

And by then, everyone will have been forced to accept what they consider unacceptable or be fined and lose all health coverage." from Caroline Glick. I suggest you read her full column===

Reasons to think Prince Charles is an idiot about Syria

Andrew Bolt November 02 2013 (9:59am)

Global warming - propaganda

2001 - the International Food Policy Research Institute warns that overpopulation and overstocking in the arid Middle East will make droughts worse:
Drought is a recurrent and often devastating threat to the welfare of countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) where three - quarters of the arable land has less than 400 mm of annual rainfall, and the natural grazings, which support a majority of the 290 million ruminant livestock, have less than 200 mm. Its impact has been exacerbated in the last half century by the human population increasing yearly at over 3%, while livestock numbers have risen by 50% over the quinquennium.
2008 - Australian researchers predict global warming will at least bring more rain to key parts of the Middle East:

The prospect of climate change sparking food shortages and water wars in the Middle East is less likely than previously thought, with new UNSW research suggesting that rainfall will be significantly higher in key parts of the region.
2010 - Syria gets a drought - like it so often does - even if it’s more prolonged than most:
image
2011 - the drought ends, and we’re reminded that rich and free societies can easily survive what poor tyrannies next door cannot:
“Israel is no longer drying up and the severe drought ended two years ago,” Water Commissioner Alexander Kushnir told “Globes TV” today [October 2, 2013]. “We’re emerging from the drought, and the water sector has stabilized at a supply rate for the next 10-15 years.”
2013 - we’re reminded that far worse has happened in Syria before:

The Akkadian empire flourished in the third millennium BC. Sometime around 2,200 BC drought hit, the lands dried and people migrated from urban centres. The government then collapsed, and the mighty empire began to falter in a series of calamities collectively referred to as the third-millennium Mesopotamian urban crisis.
2013 - in fact, the IPCC concedes there is little evidence that global warming (which has paused for 15 years) has brought more droughts around the world:

In summary, the current assessment concludes that there is not enough evidence at present to suggest more than low confidence in a global-scale observed trend in drought or dryness (lack of rainfall) since the middle of the 20th century.... Based on updated studies, AR4 conclusions regarding global increasing trends in drought since the 1970s were probably overstated.
So let’s sum up. There’s been no statistically significant warming for 15 years. No one is sure whether more warming will bring more rain or less to the Middle East. There is little evidence that warming of world over the last century has brought more droughts, although Syria has had less rain lately. The drought in the Middle East ended two years ago, and Israel survived it with no great trouble. Syria is much more vulnerable to drought with so many more poor farmers and livestock. Syria has had worse droughts before. And then come the Islamists…
Conclusion? Prince Charles is an idiot:

The Prince of Wales used his keynote speech at the 9th World Islamic Economic Forum in London this evening to warn of the political and economic dangers of climate change, and used Syria as a “terrifyingly graphic” example of the adverse effects of climate change on vulnerable populations…
“The tragic conflict in Syria provides a terrifyingly graphic example, where a severe drought for the last seven years has decimated Syria’s rural economy. Driving many farmers off their fields and into cities where, already, food was in short supply...”

The news is still out there. It’s not Abbott’s job to supply it

Andrew Bolt November 02 2013 (9:50am)

Nick Cater on the journalists now complaining about a lack of press releases from the Abbott Government:
THE information austerity drive is hurting. The political press pack, deprived of the government’s attention, is crying out to be fed.
James Massola in The Australian Financial Review predicts the government eventually will be “mugged by reality”, declaring “the news business has changed and, with it, so has the business of governing”.
The ABC’s Barrie Cassidy writes that Tony Abbott’s approach “is working just fine now”, but adds a warning: “The political class will eventually claim back their relevance.”
Yet the grumbles about this exceptionally unforthcoming administration mask a problem closer to home… Journalism has succumbed to a culture of dependency…
Criticism of the government’s so-called media-management strategy misses the point; Abbott’s approach is less a case of management and more of laissez faire.
The Rudd and Gillard administrations took a Keynesian approach, intervening heavily in the market and attempting to control the flow of news. It invested heavily in a state-owned media enterprise, the ABC, encouraging it to compete more aggressively with the private sector.
When all else failed, it tried to regulate the market through legislation to control the press.Abbott, by contrast, is behaving like an ultra-dry economic conservative and is letting the news market rip.
The critical condition of modern journalism has been exposed.

Shorten forgot to tack back to the centre now that he can’t be sacked by the Left

Andrew Bolt November 02 2013 (9:41am)

Barrie Cassidy says Bill Shorten should stick with a form of carbon tax - even though it’s actually irrational and will kill Labor at the polls:

It’s the unspoken truth of Labor’s rules changes that the left now essentially controls the leadership. Shorten won this time only because some in the left defected. In the future, that will be the exception rather the rule.
Shorten will get lots of advice from right wing commentators to capitulate on the carbon tax. But in the end he is probably better served focussing on the hopes and aspirations of his membership rather than taking advice from those who want him to fail.
But as I argued on 2GB last night and on my blog, Shorten threw away a critical advantage:

I know he would have outraged die-hard warmists on Labor’s Left had he dropped any promise of a price on carbon dioxide emissions. But here is where he could have used Labor’s preposterous new leadership rules to his advantage. He knows those rules essentially mean he cannot be sacked before the election, and if he miraculously wins that election he cannot be sacked as Prime Minister.
So he could have made the call on the carbon tax that would have outraged his Left but pleased voters of the centre. Instead, he went for the easy option, and looks doomed even before he starts.
Reader Peter puts it this way:

I don’t follow Cassidy’s thinking: as you’ve pointed out, there’s very little chance Caucus will ever muster the necessary 60 per cent support to remove Shorten as Opposition Leader before the next general election. So he won’t have to face the membership ever again now that he has the job.
As to Cassidy’s point about the left now controlling the Labor leadership, I’m not so sure. Labor leadership contests will probably start to resemble US primaries: appeal to the base to get the nomination, before pivoting back to the centre once you’ve got the gig.
It seems Shorten has missed a trick and defied all logic by continuing to appeal to the base when he simply doesn’t have to, at the expense of gaining any support from the centre.

Labor kept quiet about another $1.4 billion NBN blowout

Andrew Bolt November 02 2013 (9:14am)

Labor knew its NBN plans were blowing out - again - by up to $1.4 billion but kept the news secret:
A CABINET briefing document obtained by The Weekend Australian confirms the Rudd government was aware of significant risks to the National Broadband Network rollout and that delays would strip $1.4 billion in revenues throughout the election campaign.

The summary of a cabinet submission by then communications minister Anthony Albanese for the meeting scheduled for July 22 ... [said:] “Given existing delays and the emerging industrial issues, we consider the rollout forecasts are questionable...”

Mr Albanese was pressed during the election campaign on his knowledge of this corporate plan, notably in a debate on ABC’s Lateline program on August 12…

Lateline host Emma Alberici...(:) “Have you got a date for receiving it?”

“We have not received—well, that’s up to the board, but we have not received the final business plan,” said Mr Albanese.
What a disaster. The politicians responsible should be hounded out of office. Yet one is now Labor’s defence spokesman.

Electricity Bill’s tax by another name

Andrew Bolt November 02 2013 (9:07am)

The IPA’s Tim Wilson sums it up:
image
UPDATE
Terry McCrann on the sheer futility of slashing Australia’s emissions:

In 2009, according to the US Energy Information Administration, global CO2 emissions were 30,236 million tonnes. By 2011 they had risen to 32,578 million tonnes. And last year they added about another 1000 million tonnes.
In short, since 2009, total global CO2 emissions have increased by around six times our total CO2 emissions. That is to say, by around 120 times what our 5 per cent cut would deliver; still 40 times what a 15 per cent cut would deliver.
And at what cost:
Never mind that we have the highest price on CO2 emissions, bar none. Never mind that our carbon tax, designed by Gillard-Combet-Rudd and now Shorten-style, to morph into an emissions trading scheme, is the most pervasive across the economy, again bar none. Including in the home of climate insanity, Europe.
Never mind, most of all, that our seemingly puny 5 per cent cut is actually extremely punitive on a per capita basis, given our very rapid population growth ...

ABC fact checkers reach new depths: gay marriage defended because Nero did it

Andrew Bolt November 02 2013 (8:08am)

The extra grant Labor gave the ABC this year for a ”Fact Check” unit was a complete waste of money. It’s gone to yet another Leftist cell largely devoted to exposing conservative motes while overlooking Leftist beams.
Worse, it seems to have trashed the facts to push propaganda.
This week, the unit tries to dispute this statement from Prime Minister Tony Abbott:

From time immemorial, in every culture that’s been known, marriage or that kind of solemnised relationship has been between a man and a woman.
Aha! The ABC fact checkers pounce. False, they cry:

Roman Emperor Nero was married to not one man, but two. His nuptials were recorded and discussed at the time between subjects - friendly and hostile.
What a fraudulent gotcha. This is not fact-checking but fooling and faking.
What Nero did was actually culturally transgressive. His “marriage” no more reflected Roman mores than did his purported incest with his mother.
Tacitus, a boy during Nero’s reign, recorded such “marriages” as “unnatural” and a “degradation”:

Nero was already corrupted by every lust, natural and unnatural. But he now refuted any surmises that no further degradation was possible for him. For a few days later he went through a formal wedding ceremony- with one of the perverted gang called Pythagoras. The emperor, in the presence of witnesses, put on the bridal veil. Dowry, marriage bed, wedding torches, all were there. Indeed everything was public which even in a natural union is veiled by night.
Suetonius recorded them a few decades later in an account of Nero’s “vices”:

XXVII. Little by little, however, as his vices grew stronger, he dropped jesting and secrecy and with no attempt at disguise openly broke out into worse crime… Whenever he drifted down the Tiber to Ostia, or sailed about the Gulf of Baiae, booths were set up at intervals along the banks and shores, fitted out for debauchery…
XXVIII. Besides abusing freeborn boys and seducing married women, he debauched the vestal virgin Rubria… He castrated the boy Sporus and actually tried to make a woman of him; and he married him with all the usual ceremonies, including a dowry and a bridal veil, took him to his house attended by a great throng, and treated him as his wife… That he even desired illicit relations with his own mother, and was kept from it by her enemiess who feared that such a relationship might give the reckless and insolent woman too great infiuence, was notorious, especially after he added to his concubines a courtesan who was said to look very like Agripinina. Even before that, so they say, whenever he rode in a litter with his mother, he had incestuous relations with her, which were betrayed by the stains on his clothing.
XXIX. He so prostituted his own chastity that after defiling almost every part of his body, he at last devised a kind of game, in which, covered with the skin of some wild animal, he was let loose from a cage and attacked the private parts of men and women, who were bound to stakes, and when he had sated his mad lust, was dispatched by his freed man Doryphorus; for he was even married to this man in the same way that he himself had married Sporus, going so far as to imitate the cries and lamentations of a maiden being deflowered.
Cassius Dio referred to one of the marriages as among Nero’s “indecencies”:

Now Nero called Sporus “Sabina” not merely because, owing to his resemblance to her he had been made a eunuch, but because the boy, like the mistress, had been solemnly married to him in Greece, Tigellinus giving the bride away, as the law ordained. All the Greeks held a celebration in honour of their marriage, uttering all the customary good wishes, even to the extent of praying that legitimate children might be born to them. After that Nero had two bedfellows at once, Pythagoras to play the rôle of husband to him, and Sporus that of wife. The latter, in addition to other forms of address, was termed “lady,” “queen,” and “mistress.” Yet why should one wonder at this, seeing that Nero would fasten naked boys and girls to stakes, and then putting on the hide of a wild beast would attack them and satisfy his brutal lust under the appearance of devouring parts of their bodies? Such were the indecencies of Nero.
And how much of such reports is even true? How much is anti-Nero propaganda?
But step back. What a strange argument the ABC fact-checkers are so deceitfully presenting. Gay marriage is sanctioned by history because Nero did it?
This is fiddling while the argument burns. The ABC fact-check unit is out of control.

I admire Andrew Webster

Andrew Bolt November 02 2013 (7:55am)

I can’t support same-sex marriage for fear it will weaken a very useful tradition and restraint.
But I can very much support Andrew Webster for his courage and sense of responsibility for others.
I think he’ll be pleasantly surprised by two things: how many people will back him and how many think it’s no big deal, either way.
There’s just too few trolls that we should let them dictate our lives or this or much else.

Hartcher: Abbott has “failed”

Andrew Bolt November 02 2013 (7:22am)

There are three words in this passage by the Sydney Morning Herald’s Peter Hartcher that are simply nonsensical:

...unrealistic expectations are, axiomatically, bound to be disappointed.
This didn’t deter Abbott from trying. He implausibly repeated the claim ‘’there is almost nothing wrong with Australia that can’t be improved by electing a Coalition government’’.
But he failed, and he should now be glad he did. ‘’Low expectations allow him to make a couple of early mistakes, as most new leaders do,’’ Stirton says.
“Unrealistic”? “Implausibly”? And Abbott has already “failed” after less than two months?
Is Hartcher describing a dream or what’s actually occurred?
And what exactly are Abbott’s “couple of early mistakes”?

Fact check everything Palmer says

On 7.30 this week:

LEIGH SALES: So let me ask you now about some of the details: how many company directorships do you hold?
CLIVE PALMER: I wouldn’t have a clue, but a lot. Maybe 40 or 50.
But today:
Wealthy businessman Clive Palmer will be forced to disclose a minefield of potential conflicts of interests in his role as a federal MP, with directorships of no fewer than 74 private companies involved in aviation, sport, mining, shipping, real estate and tourism…
A Fairfax Media investigation of Mr Palmer’s wealth found his investments stretch from cane farms on the Sunshine Coast to coalfields in central Queensland, a Tahitian resort, prospecting operations in offshore gasfields, Chinese ship builders and Zeppelin airships.

Why are we paying Tasmanians the dole when there are scallops to shuck?

Andrew Bolt November 02 2013 (6:49am)

From Tasmania, the state with the highest unemployment rate in the country:

Evidently, it is a boom year [for scallops], with plenty of stock. But the operators are unable to find enough shuckers, even though they are paid well above the minimum wage (around $24 an hour). And this is in Tasmania, where unemployment is 50 per cent higher than the mainland. One large operator has opted to freeze the catch at sea, ship it to Thailand to be shucked after the catch is partly thawed and export the product from there. Some of it is even re-imported to Australia. Labour is cheap and reliable in Thailand. Even taking into account the extra costs of freezing and transport, this strategy makes more sense than processing the scallops in Australia.
Fisherman say the same:
ALAN BARNETT, SCALLOP FISHERMAN: We have our boats export-registered to be able to freeze on board and when the boats come in we unload directly either into cold stores or into containers, and from there they get straight on the ship over and into Thailand.
BOB LISTER: They’re coming back to Australia to be sold locally as half-shell scallops. I think it’s probably cheaper to process scallops overseas than it is in Australia, unfortunately…
FIONA BREEN: Local processors can’t find enough workers to shuck scallops.
(Sound of scallop shucking)
MICK SMITH, PROCESSOR: It is hard to get the workers. It’s hard to get people that will stick at it. If people stick at it, they can make really good money out of it. I just think, with the future generation, I don’t think they’re interested.
And if it’s not lazy workers, it’s officious bureaucracy:
JOHN HAMMOND: This mind set we’ve now is that fishermen are rape, pillagers and plunders; there’ll be nothing left if we don’t stop them. Well they’ve pretty much stopped us. There’s only one endangered species out here, and that’s me, and Junior. Yeah, we’re managed to death.
FIONA BREEN: Authorities from Victoria, the Commonwealth and Tasmania have been talking about streamlining the three different sets of regulations, but nothing’s happening fast…
JOHN HAMMOND: I think this area here that’s open here now works out - for our total available area of fishing in Tasmanian waters, is less than half of one per cent. That’s all we’ve got to fish in.
FIONA BREEN: How much of an area do you have to fish in Bass Strait?
JOHN HAMMOND: Call it a lot of things, but we’ll call it a bee’s dick.

No, global warming can mean fewer fires, not more

Andrew Bolt November 02 2013 (6:31am)

Professor Bjorn Lomborg fact-checks the fire alarmists:

UN climate change chief Christiana Figueres told CNN that global warming and bushfires were “absolutely” connected, and former US vice-president Al Gore made it even clearer on the ABC: “When the temperature goes up and when the vegetation and soils dry out, then wildfires become more pervasive and more dangerous. That’s not me saying it, that’s what the scientific community says.”
The problem is, that is simply not what the science says. The latest peer-reviewed study on global fire, run with a record 16 climate models, tells us that sometimes heat and dryness lead to more fire, but sometimes lead to less fire. This is because with less precipitation the biomass burns more easily, but with less precipitation there is also less growth and hence less biomass to burn. For Mediterranean-type ecosystems, such as southwest and south Australia, it turns out that more than half the time, future drying means less fire.
Even Figueres accepts that. “The World Meteorological Organisation has not established the direct link between this wildfire and climate change,” she said, though she optimistically added a prophesying “yet” to her sentence....
Moreover, global fire activity is estimated to have declined 10 per cent from its maximum around 1950. For the past 60 years we have seen less global fire activity, despite rising temperatures. Even with global warming, the fire activity decline will likely continue until about 2025 and only then start going up.
UPDATE
Meanwhile, warmists struggle with this basic contradiction between the catastrophic warming they predicted and the temperatures we’re actually seeing.
No warming at all over 12 years, or even a statistically insignificant cooling:

Making Labor’s IR court more appealing

Andrew Bolt November 02 2013 (6:23am)

Fair enough, although even better would be less regulation, not another level of bureaucracy:

THE Abbott government is moving to impose an appeals body over the nation’s workplace umpire, declaring concern at inconsistent decisions by the Fair Work Commission.
The new body, which follows employer claims that Labor had stacked the tribunal, would be headed by a Coalition appointee and would establish a new avenue for appeal against commission rulings.
In his first extended interview since being appointed, Employment Minister Eric Abetz revealed that he had written to employers and unions, giving notice of a December 13 deadline to state their position on the appeals body that he likened to the NSW Court of Appeal.
Labor has no right to complain:
Twenty-seven appointments were made to the Fair Work Commission during Labor’s term in government. Eighteen of the appointees have direct links to trade unions or the Labor Party. And most of the other nine would be regarded as sympathetic to Labor.

Ingredients
Crust
2 cups finely crushed graham crackers (use nice biscuits in aust)
2 tablespoons sugar (if using nice biscuits in aust disregard this sugar)
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 pinch salt
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
Filling
4 packages (8 oz each) cream cheese, room temperature
1 1/3 cups sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 pinch salt
1 cup sour cream
1 cup heavy cream
4 large eggs
1 each of liquid food colors (blue, yellow, green, red)

Directions
1 Preheat oven 180/350F degrees. Before you get started with the crust, make sure your 9 inch springform pan is water tight. I do this by carefully wrapping a few layers of foil on the outside of the pan, so water cannot get into the pan. Be careful not to rip the foil or water will get into your cake and ruin it!

2 Mix crushed crackers, 2 tablespoons sugar, the cinnamon and salt together in a bowl. Then mix in butter with your clean fingers, until crumbs are pea sized.

3 Press all of the graham cracker mixture into the prepared springform pan. Press it down firmly in the pan. I like to use a measuring cup for this, which makes it easy to get around the edges. You should have an even, flat crust.

4 Bake the crust for 10 minutes on a low oven rack. Remove from the oven, and cool completely before continuing. Turn oven temperature down to 160/325 degrees.

5 To make filling, cut cream cheese into pieces and add to a mixing bowl. Whip until smooth, maybe 4 minutes. Then add 1-1/3 cups sugar, and continue to beat until smooth again, another 4-5 minutes. Next, add vanilla, salt, sour cream and heavy cream; beat until smooth. Add in 1 egg at a time, beating briefly between each egg.

6 Once the mixture is well combined and very smooth, divide evenly into 6 dishes. Add food color to each dish to get the desired colors. (Red = 25 drops of red, Orange = 18 drops yellow + 6 drops red, Yellow = 18 drops yellow, Green = 18 drops green, Blue = 18 drops blue, Violet = 18 drops red Blue Mountain Cocoa Drops

7 Pour colored mixtures into cooled crust. Start with red filling, and slowly pour it right in the center of the crust. Continue to build the rainbow by pouring the fillings directly in the center. This will create layers so that each slice has some of each color.

8 Place cheesecake into a baking dish on oven rack, and fill baking dish with boiling water about 1 inch up the side of the springform pan.

9 Bake at 160/325 degrees in the water bath for 1 hour and 40 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes or until set but still jiggles slightly 2 inches from the edge. If cheesecake begins to brown on top, cover loosely with foil during last 5 minutes of baking.

10 Turn off the oven, open the oven door a crack, and let the cake cool in the oven for 1 hour. The slow cooling will help it not crack.

11 Then loosely wrap the dish in foil so the foil isn't touching the top of the cake and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.

12 When ready to remove cake, run a clean narrow knife around the edge of the dish, remove the foil, unlock the spring, and carefully lift off the outer ring.

13 Serve either alone or with a cherry/raspberry sauce. It's so rich and creamy that it really doesn't need a topping.

US Campaign for Burma.
Today, Rep. Trent Franks & Rep. Jim McGovern published a fantastic bipartisan critique of the Obama Administration's Burma policy, in particular the US' naive bid for military relations:

"U.S. strategic interests depend on systemic change in Burma. Burma's military remains the largest obstacle to comprehensive government reform and continues to exert dominance over Burma's government, despite common American perceptions of Burma's government transferring power from military-to-civilian authority...

Burma still has a long path ahead to becoming a rights-respecting country. In order to help achieve this reform, the U.S. must continue to identify and underscore atrocities that threaten Burma's future peace and stability. The U.S. needs to give the pro-reform movement within Burma the appropriate leverage to foster democracy and lasting civilian rule. We would be naïve to expect military-to-military contact to produce the necessary change towards democracy and a reformed military."

ONYA BIKE CAMPBELL!

Why is it that Queensland premiers believe they are a law unto themselves? Our Constitution provides a treasured right of assembly and a right to freedom of association, as surely as it did to those violent uni students in Melbourne and the coming unions’ furor over Abbott’s IR.

Finks, Hell’s Angels, Bandidos, and the outrageous Mongols all engage in criminal activity, as do unions, but all are either clubs or associations and you cannot jail an association or a club. An individual must first be charged, found guilty by a court of law and then punished by the judiciary within legal parameters placed on it.

Campbell Newman proposes to distort our judicial system. Even his Attorney General (whose only qualification is that he was once a conveyancing clerk) should know the law has to be applied equally to all.

If criminal organisations are to be outlawed the first cab off the rank should be the NSW Right of the Labor Party, then the Catholic Church followed by Green councils.

Newman takes “guilt by association” to dizzying heights. Even those who aid and abet in a criminal act are afforded common law (comparable) justice.

To propose those who belong to a certain criminal group must suffer “incomparably severe” justice falls foul of our Constitution and the Discrimination Act. The High Court won’t hesitate to uphold any appeal.

Newman is playing with his donger if he believes the law can be applied unequally.

IDF: Training for the 'Future of War'
The nature of combat is changing. The IDF’s upper command has long understood that the tactics and techniques that it took to defeat the conventional militaries of states like Egypt and Syria in 1948, 1967 and 1973 will no longer be relevant in the next war that Israel has to fight.
Terrorist organizations including Hamas and Hezbollah – which have sworn themselves to Israel’s destruction – have a proven track record of entrenching themselves inside civilian communities which they then use as human shields. They dig tunnels deep underground for smuggling weapons and infiltrating Israeli territory to strike civilian targets. Just last week a tunnel was discovered leading from Gaza into Israeli territory – the third in the past year alone.

Iran’s recent actions, including installing over 1000 new centrifuges capable of rapidly creating weapons-grade uranium from low-grade uranium, and its refusal allow UN inspectors access to Iran’s nuclear sites, reflect a violent agenda that speaks louder than Rouhani’s words of peace.
In response, United with Israel has launched a major campaign(www.stopiran.org) to keep the pressure on Iran. It’s main goal is to keep world leaders, including US President Barack Obama, focused on the Iranian nuclear threat, and to increase the pressure by imposing harsher sanctions on the Iranian regime.Senior Iranian officials have openly declared that “Iran’s nuclear activities continue as in the past”, and that Iran is “continuing the enrichment of uranium to the 20 percent level.”

Israel Wary of Trusting Security in Jordan Valley to the UN
In light of international forces’ previous failed attempts to maintain peace in the Jordan Valley, 70 percent of Israelis oppose an IDF withdrawal from the region.
According to these statistics, the future of this region, which is one of several discussion items in the current Israel-Palestinian Authority peace talks, raises security concerns for the majority of Israelis.
The Jewish Center for Public Affairs (JCPA) posted a video highlighting the perceived dangers of future arrangements involving international forces.

Living Torah: The 'Birthright Battle'
This week’s Torah portion is Toldot (Genesis 25:19 – 28:9), and it opens with a genealogical recording of Abraham’s family. One of the central features of this week’s reading is the struggle – the eternal struggle – between Jacob and Esau.
In this case, it was the struggle over the birthright and who would become the next leader of the Jewish people. As we will see, however, ownership of the birthright really wasn’t much of a struggle – more of a culinary experience. So, too, we will see how one of the greatest lessons in decision-making can be learned from the wicked Esau.

The race between conservative Ken Cuccinelli and liberal Terry McAuliffe to be the next governor of Virginia is incredibly close.
The election is this Tuesday, and one poll has the two candidates separated by just one single point!
We need to pay for busses, lodging, and literature.  Ken Cuccinelli can win this race with one last giant grassroots push.
This is the most important race in the nation this year.  And the election is Tuesday, so we don't have much time!
Ken is a close friend of mine.  He was the first state Attorney General to challenge Obamacare in court.  He's made stopping this law the centerpiece of his campaign.
If Ken wins, his victory will deal a political deathblow to Obamacare.  That's why conservatives everywhere must help him!
Patriot Voices already has 100 volunteers on the ground helping Ken.
However, we need to send at least 100 more to Virginia this weekend.  And your critical contribution will pay for their expenses.
Two recent polls have this race neck-and-neck.  Either candidate can win.   Grassroots campaigning will make all the difference over these last few days.
Terry McAuliffe and the Democrats know they are in real trouble.  President Obama is campaigning in Virginia Democratic strongholds this weekend.  Liberal anti-gun mayor Michael Bloomberg has rushed millions of dollars to the state to help prop up McAuliffe.
This race is not only our golden opportunity to elect a true conservative governor of a "blue" Obama state, it's also our chance to send an anti-Obamacare message to the Washington politicians that they won't soon forget.
The Obama Democrats know that Obamacare is on the political ropes.  They know they can't afford to lose a race like this one to a rock-solid conservative candidate like Ken Cuccinelli.
They are pulling out all the stops to crush this conservative hero.
We MUST get these 100 volunteers to Virginia this weekend.  Ken Cuccinelli needs their help.
Thank you in advance for all your help.
Sincerely,

LAST CHANCE TO USE OBAMACARE TO DEFEAT
CLINTON-OBAMA STAND-IN TERRY MCAULIFFE

Dear Patriot,

Thought you'd want to be updated on our efforts to defeat Obama-Clinton puppet Terry McAuliffe.
As you know, the election is this Tuesday, November 5.

SEVERAL IMPORTANT UPDATES

> On Wednesday the highly-respected Quinnipiac University
releaseda poll that showed McAuliffe up only FOUR POINTS, inside the margin of error, 45% to 41%.
> Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI) and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) are coming in to campaign with Ken this weekend. Politico
reported on this.
> Former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) will campaign with Ken (to target Libertarian voters) on Mondaynight in Richmond.

TERRY IS WORRIED

> McAuliffe's campaign is deeply worried about low turnout. The top elections official in Virginia saidTuesday that turnout could be as low as 30 percent.
> McAuliffe is bringing in President Obama on Sunday and Vice President Joe Biden on Monday -- both for events in northern Virginia.

The simple truth is that McAuliffe's support is cratering for three reasons:

1) McAuliffe has run a negative campaign with no plans or positive ideas and it is finally catching up with him.
2) McAuliffe got a short-lived polling bump from the government shutdown, the impact of which is receding every day.
2) The Obamacare rollout disaster is dominating the national and local news and there is a clear contrast:McAuliffe wants to expand Obamacare in Virginia and Cuccinelli fought it from the beginning.

Throughout his career, Cuccinelli has always closed strong, with polls showing him behind in the closing days of his State Senate races (northern Virginia) and for Attorney General.

Our national Super PAC,
Fight For Tomorrow, which launched Sept. 12, has been actively engaged in Virginia for six weeks and is leaving it all on the field.

> Our "Don't Let them Detroit Virginia" ad has been
viewed over 75,000 times on YouTube andemphatically praised on air by Rush Limbaugh.
> Our
"Deeply Unserious Terry" ad and corresponding microsite (DeeplyUnseriousTerry.com) launched after the first televised debate.
> Our two minute, highly produced, two minute
"Dishonest Terry" web ad details the stunning dishonesty of Terry McAuliffe throughout his political career and ends with a Bill Clinton quote you have to see to believe.
> We have developed over 1,000 donors from across the country for our efforts.

All our ads are available for viewing at:http://www.youtube.com/F4Tomorrow.

HERE IS WHAT WE ARE WORKING ON RIGHT NOW

Most importantly, for Game 5 of the World Series, we produced in 22 hours and aired an ad that is having an impact right now: "Obamacare Fiasco."

You can watch the new TV spot, “Obamacare Fiasco,”here.

On Wednesday we sent out our press release, announcing our $50,000 buy on Richmond TV.

ACTION ALERT:

> If you want to have an impact, now is the time. It is not too late. We are standing by to place TV buys in targeted Virginia markets.
> Yesterday alone we placed $50k in Richmond on local news, Sunday talk, weekend football and Election Day across the four local affiliates.
> At a minimum, we would like to do the same today in the Tidewater media marketif we raise at least $50,000.
> If we raise $1 million, we will direct it to northern Virginia, where Cuccinelli does not currently have the funds to be on the air.

Morning and Evening by Charles Spurgeon

Morning

"The church in thy house."
Philemon 2
Is there a Church in this house? Are parents, children, friends, servants, all members of it? or are some still unconverted? Let us pause here and let the question go round--Am I a member of the Church in this house? How would father's heart leap for joy, and mother's eyes fill with holy tears if from the eldest to the youngest all were saved! Let us pray for this great mercy until the Lord shall grant it to us. Probably it had been the dearest object of Philemon's desires to have all his household saved; but it was not at first granted him in its fulness. He had a wicked servant, Onesimus, who, having wronged him, ran away from his service. His master's prayers followed him, and at last, as God would have it, Onesimus was led to hear Paul preach; his heart was touched, and he returned to Philemon, not only to be a faithful servant, but a brother beloved, adding another member to the Church in Philemon's house. Is there an unconverted servant or child absent this morning? Make special supplication that such may, on their return to their home, gladden all hearts with good news of what grace has done! Is there one present? Let him partake in the same earnest entreaty.
If there be such a Church in our house, let us order it well, and let all act as in the sight of God. Let us move in the common affairs of life with studied holiness, diligence, kindness, and integrity. More is expected of a Church than of an ordinary household; family worship must, in such a case, be more devout and hearty; internal love must be more warm and unbroken, and external conduct must be more sanctified and Christlike. We need not fear that the smallness of our number will put us out of the list of Churches, for the Holy Spirit has here enrolled a family-church in the inspired book of remembrance. As a Church let us now draw nigh to the great head of the one Church universal, and let us beseech him to give us grace to shine before men to the glory of his name.

Evening

"And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away: so shall also the coming of the Son of man be."
Matthew 24:39
Universal was the doom, neither rich nor poor escaped: the learned and the illiterate, the admired and the abhorred, the religious and the profane, the old and the young, all sank in one common ruin. Some had doubtless ridiculed the patriarch--where now their merry jests? Others had threatened him for his zeal which they counted madness--where now their boastings and hard speeches? The critic who judged the old man's work is drowned in the same sea which covers his sneering companions. Those who spoke patronizingly of the good man's fidelity to his convictions, but shared not in them, have sunk to rise no more, and the workers who for pay helped to build the wondrous ark, are all lost also. The flood swept them all away, and made no single exception. Even so, out of Christ, final destruction is sure to every man of woman born; no rank, possession, or character, shall suffice to save a single soul who has not believed in the Lord Jesus. My soul, behold this wide-spread judgment and tremble at it.
How marvellous the general apathy! they were all eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, till the awful morning dawned. There was not one wise man upon earth out of the ark. Folly duped the whole race, folly as to self-preservation--the most foolish of all follies. Folly in doubting the most true God--the most malignant of fooleries. Strange, my soul, is it not? All men are negligent of their souls till grace gives them reason, then they leave their madness and act like rational beings, but not till then.
All, blessed be God, were safe in the ark, no ruin entered there. From the huge elephant down to the tiny mouse all were safe. The timid hare was equally secure with the courageous lion, the helpless cony as safe as the laborious ox. All are safe in Jesus. My soul, art thou in him?

Today's Old Testament reading: Jeremiah 24-26

Two Baskets of Figs
1 After Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim king of Judah and the officials, the skilled workers and the artisans of Judah were carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the LORD showed me two baskets of figs placed in front of the temple of the LORD. 2One basket had very good figs, like those that ripen early; the other basket had very bad figs, so bad they could not be eaten.
3 Then the LORD asked me, “What do you see, Jeremiah?”
“Figs,” I answered. “The good ones are very good, but the bad ones are so bad they cannot be eaten.”
4 Then the word of the LORD came to me: 5 “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Like these good figs, I regard as good the exiles from Judah, whom I sent away from this place to the land of the Babylonians. 6My eyes will watch over them for their good, and I will bring them back to this land. I will build them up and not tear them down; I will plant them and not uproot them. 7 I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the LORD. They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart....

Today's New Testament reading: Titus 2

Doing Good for the Sake of the Gospel
1 You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine. 2 Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.
6 Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. 7In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness 8 and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
9 Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, 10and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive....

Old Enough to Learn
Today's Truth
Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth (Psalm 86:11 NIV).
Friend to Friend
The little girl bounced up and down, trying to see over the bank counter as her daddy made a deposit. She was about three feet tall and not quite big enough to get a clear view.
"How old are you?" the teller asked.
The little girl stood up straight and tall and said, "I'm four years old, and next year I'm going to be five, and then I'll be old enough to learn!"
Of course we know she'd been learning her entire life. Being five just meant she could go to school.
Then God reminded me that sometimes His children put off learning about Him until...well, later. When the kids go off the school. When a big project is completed. When retirement rolls around. But the time for learning about God is now. All day God speaks to us through creation, other people, and our circumstances, but the primary way we learn about Him is through the pages of the Bible. He has written us an incredible love letter filled with precious promises, comforting commands, and godly guidelines just waiting to be discovered. The Hebrew word for "Bible" actually means, "The calling out of God." He is calling out to us from the pages of our Bibles. And we're never too young or too old to learn.
Because you're reading this Girlfriends in God devotion, I'm thinking you have decided that now is the time to learn. We're right there with you, locking arms with you in this journey to become a woman who listens to God day by day to discover the abundant life Jesus came to give.
Let's Pray
Dear Lord, thank You for teaching me. Help me to become a diligent student of Your Word who uncovers treasures on every page of Scripture. Open my eyes to discover Your truths and my heart to apply them.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
Now It's Your Turn
Read Psalm 119 and mark or highlight everything David had to say about how much he loved God's Word! This is a long passage. David really, really loved God's Word. You might need to break it down into several days.
More from the GirlfriendsDo you find yourself longing to hear God's voice - not as a once-in-a-lifetime experience but on a daily basis? If so, Sharon's new 15-Minute Devotional book, Listening to God Day-by-Day,will help you do just that. It is an expanded version of the smaller book, Extraordinary Moments with God. In it you will find 100 devotions to help you become a woman who detects God's still small voice in all of life. This is a warm, fun, tender look at recognizing some of the wonderful and unexpected ways God reaches out to us in the middle of our everyday life.

Where the Heart Is
Susan Meissner
She Reads Featured Author
"He has planted eternity in the human heart ..."Ecclesiastes 3:11b (NLT)
A while back, my young adult son took a trip to visit friends in the state where we used to live. He stopped by the house that had been ours for all of his childhood. And, he felt compelled to knock on the front door and introduce himself to the strangers who now own it.
When he said he had grown up in that house, the wife didn't hesitate to open the door wide and invite him in. She knew that in our hearts we often feel toward our houses what we might feel for a trusted ally, a kind friend or maybe even a silent witness to our pain.
My latest character Marielle Bishop understands this. In my new novel A Sound Among the Trees, new bride Marielle takes up residence in an old house with a storied past. She just isn't sure that this place can be a safe haven for her heart.
We are wired to feel a tug toward that one special place we feel safe, wanted and cared for. Our hearts are restless when we're far from home, or our home is taken from us, or when discord disrupts the tranquility of that place.
So what's a girl to do when she doesn't feel at home? We need to remember that Christ is at home in her. So in a sense, we take our eternal home with us wherever we go. Wherever we are, we can feel safe, wanted and cared for by Christ who dwells inside every believer.
When the Israelites were waiting for God to lead them to their new home in the Promised Land, He had them build a tabernacle for His presence to dwell right there where they were, wherever that was on their journey.
We don't use the word "tabernacle" much these days but if you were to look at its Hebrew roots you would see that it comes from the same word as "dwell" and "abide" and "settle down." When God brings His presence right to where we are, He is "tabernacling" with us.
The Lord God Almighty settles down inside us. His Spirit lives in us. Our heart becomes His Holy tabernacle and He is at home in us. Isn't that a thrilling, mind-bending concept?
The Bible tells us God has "set eternity in our hearts" which means He has made us hungry for His heavenly embrace. The affection we have for our earthly houses stems from this smoldering ember of our longing for Him as our eternal home.
There's no place like home. It's why we like everyone to be home for the holidays and home before dark and why we just want to go home when we're having a bad day. Home is where our hearts are at rest. And our hearts can always be at rest in Him.
Whether your earthly home is as near as your next breath or too far away to be seen today, know that God has promised to tabernacle with you! He dwells with you. You are His earthly address. And in Him, you are home.
Dear Lord, help me today to find all my joy in knowing You are my forever dwelling place and that I am at home in You because You are at home in me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
A house with a turbulent Civil War history becomes home to a new bride and stepmother in a richly absorbing tale of a line of women living in patterns of regret. Also, enter to win a Civil War era styled quilted table runner, or a southern caramel cake along with the novel.
Application Steps:
Are you feeling "homesick" today? Do you wish you could go back to a simpler time or place? Make a list of ten things you are grateful for that do not change simply because your address changes. Start the list with: 1) God lovingly lives in me.
Visit a nursing home in your area today. Find out if there is a resident there who rarely gets visitors. Ask that resident to tell you about the home where they grew up and before you leave, ask if you can read them Psalm 91.
Reflections:
Regrets keep us focused on the parts of our past that God wants us to move forward from. Are you holding onto an old "dwelling place" where God's peace is not present?
Power Verses:
Ezekiel 37:26-27, "I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant. I will establish them and increase their numbers, and I will put my sanctuary among them forever. My dwelling place will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people." (NIV)
I Corinthians 3:16, "Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in your midst?" (NIV)

Everything New - A Weeekly Devotional

GOD’S ATTRIBUTES- HE IS

How can we summarize what God means when he tells us he simply is? When Moses asked God what his name was (for there were many alternative names for gods), God's answer was, "I AM WHO I AM." This was not a typical name such as "god of thunder," or "lord of water and earth," but the simplest, most comprehensive, most absolutely fundamental descriptor.
God is. That is the essence of who he is. Before anything else existed-before mountains or horses or angels, before even matter itself existed-God was. He is the one unalterable reality. So we can worship him anytime, anywhere.
He exists not as an impersonal energy in the universe, but as "the living God." "The Father has life in himself" (John 5:26). No one brought God to life. He is the one living being who had no birth, and so he is the Father of all who have been born. Moses, Joshua, David, Isaiah, and other voices in the Old Testament drew people's attention again and again to "the living God." This is what made him different from the other gods whose statues sat on shelves.
The Old Testament prophets spared no sarcasm in talking about false gods who, because they were not alive, could not be life-giving. Isaiah depicts a man cutting a tree, using some of the wood to warm himself, and "from the rest he makes a god, his idol; he bows down to it and worships. He prays to it and says, 'Save me; you are my god'" (Isa. 44:17). Biting sarcasm!
Elsewhere (40:20) he talks about a man who looks for wood that he hopes will not rot before his god is carved. Scandalous! "He looks for a skilled craftsman to set up an idol that will not topple." (Hard to respect a god that keeps tipping over. Do you bend your head if he's leaning one way or the other? And if he topples over, wouldn't that suggest that you may fall no matter how strong your allegiance to this deity?) Hosea said the people "consult a wooden idol and are answered by a stick of wood" (Hosea 4:12 ). Just how many intelligent comments have you heard from a hunk of wood lately? And so in the New Testament the apostle Paul commended one group of believers as those who "turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God" (1 Thessalonians 1:9), because if one thing is true about idols, it is that they are the most lifeless, ridiculous objects on the face of the earth.
Those of us who have no wooden statues on the hearth, however, are no less capable of idolatry. Whenever we make up an idea of God to suit our purposes, we are idolators. The same is true when we put something or someone above God as the determinative influence in our lives.
The only kind of God worth worshipping must be a living God. If he is living and all-powerful, he is completely outside of our control. What other kind of God could exercise authority and control over our enemies?

Why does God choose some and reject others?

This week's reading: Psalm 78:67-68
A completely satisfactory answer to this question is elusive because God's choice is mysterious from our perspective. However, we can identify several factors: The transfer of favor from Ephraim to Judah may reveal God's punishing hand as well his grace. After all, the sanctuary at Shiloh in the hill country of Ephraim was full of corruption and incompetence. The sons of the high priest did not treat God's ark with respect but as a mere magic charm. There is little question that the destruction of Shiloh was an act of God's anger (see Ps 78:56-64).
It was Israel's unfaithfulness and misuse of God's blessings that led to the capture of the ark of the covenant by the Philistines (see Ps 78:60-611Sa 4:11). It was the presumption and disobedience of the people themselves that removed the symbol of God's presence and blessing from Shiloh. And it was David, trusting in God, who defeated the Philistines and eventually brought the ark to Jerusalem (see 2Sa 5:17-25;6:17).
Still, the broader question of God's choice remains. The apostle Paul discussed it by examining God's relationship with Jacob and Esau. His conclusion was that humans are limited in what they can understand about an incomprehensible God: "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion" (Ro 9:15).
