Friend,
Twice in the past week The New York Times opinion page has used its valuable space to attack me about my opposition to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, or CRPD.
Donate Now Button
You've heard me talk about this flawed treaty in the past, and you stood with us as we collectively called for its defeat.
Well, I think it's fair to say that the left is up to something if they are going to devote two opinion pieces in their flagship newspaper, largely making many of the same arguments on this issue.
This was clearly an orchestrated effort by The New York Times to drum up attention about this treaty, and attempt to smear conservative opponents along the way.
Gail Collins of The New York Times writes, "When the treaty first came up for a vote a little more than a year ago, it was torpedoed by the far right. Rick Santorum, the former Republican presidential candidate and well-known sweater-vest wearer, claimed it would endanger American parents' right to home-school their children."
Al Hunt, also writing in the Times, says, "Senate Republicans, however, already defeated the treaty in 2012, and it now faces an uphill slog to get the two-thirds vote needed for ratification. Right-wing critics - led by former Senator Rick Santorum, the Heritage Foundation and home-schoolers - said that adopting it would allow global enforcers to determine the treatment of Americans with disabilities and the permissibility of home schooling, and that it would ease access to abortion."
Both Collins and Hunt are right.  Those things could happen if CRPD is ratified.
But what is most troubling is that CRPD threatens our sovereignty.  CRPD has the potential to become the law of the land under the U.S. Constitution's Supremacy Clause.  It could trump state laws and could be used as precedent by state and federal judges. This treaty would give the government, acting under U.N. instructions, the ability to determine for all children with disabilities what is best for them.
This treaty is bad.  Really bad.
The United State is a leader on disability issues. I am a dad of a special needs child, and if this treaty would in any way make her life or the lives of children like her better, I would be the first one to support it.
But it does not.
We don't need the United Nations telling us what to do.  Yet, the liberal media and their cohorts in the White House and U.S. Senate think otherwise.  That is why we must make sure this treaty is NEVER ratified.
Thanks for fighting with us,

Many areas of regional Australia are suffering financially and emotionally because of the drought.

While we have had welcome rains across Australia in recent weeks, many parts of the country have had two dry years. Though we hope and pray for the best, we are responding to the urgency of the situation.

Earlier today, Barnaby Joyce and I announced a $320 million drought support package. This will assist drought-affected farm businesses and families to deal with immediate financial pressures – as well as improve their capacity to recover when the drought breaks.

We are a government determined to stand by the people of Australia in good times and bad.

The drought package announced today includes:

  • More generous criteria for accessing income support to be made available to farmers.
  • Drought Concessional Loans totalling $280 million to give eligible farm businesses the resources to recover from the effects of drought.
  • $12 million to be added to existing emergency water infrastructure schemes, including supplementing those in NSW and Queensland.
  • $10.7 million to assist social and mental health services in communities affected by this drought.

The Government understands that farming is a very significant part of our economy and will play a critical role in our economic future.

Click here to find out more about our drought package.

Tony Abbott

Today, you and I are winning. Kevin Rudd's ETS is gone. Julia Gillard's carbon tax is about to be repealed.
None of this would have happened without the Institute of Public Affairs and its members. But more needs to be done. Australia is still suffering under bad policies (like the renewable energy target) based on bad science.
I want the IPA to continue winning the climate change debate in this country. That's why I'm asking you to make a tax-deductible donation to the IPA today so they can bring together the world's biggest names on climate change.
The IPA needs your tax-deductible donation to publish a new book of research, Climate Change: The Facts 2014 featuring Andrew Bolt, Professor Bob Carter, James Delingpole, Donna Laframboise, Lord Nigel Lawson, Professor Richard Lindzen, Joanne Nova, Dr Patrick Michaels, Mark Steyn and Anthony Watts. I'll be writing a chapter too. I've already made a donation.
Here's what some of the contributors say about Climate Change: The Facts 2014:
"I salute what my friends at the IPA have done to make Australians start to see sense on climate change. The IPA's Climate Change: The Facts 2014 is a very important book."- Mark Steyn, contributor to Climate Change: The Facts 2014
"This is a crucial year in the climate debate. Australia needs the IPA's Climate Change: The Facts 2014 so our politicians get to see the evidence - such as the failure of the planet to warm since 1998, and the immeasurably small effect Australia's global warming policies will actually have on world temperatures."- Andrew Bolt, contributor to Climate Change: The Facts 2014
"At last people are making up their own mind about climate change - they can see the doomsayers are wrong!"- James Delingpole, contributor to Climate Change: The Facts 2014
"Climate change alarmists have done a great disservice to the cause of rational scientific enquiry. Climate Change: The Facts 2014 is significant because it deals with the evidence."- Professor Stewart Franks, University of Tasmania, contributor to Climate Change: The Facts 2014
John Roskam has told me he'll send a copy of Climate Change: The Facts 2014 to every federal member of parliament. And he's also told me about all the IPA members and supporters who want to stand up and be counted on climate change. Which is why if they choose, every person who makes a tax-deductible donation of $400 or more will be acknowledged by name on the outside back cover of the book
To make a tax-deductible donation to support Climate Change: The Facts 2014 just go tohttp://TheFacts2014.ipa.org.au today.

Report: PA Weaponizing Water Against Israel

Did you know that the Palestinian Authority is purposely not developing the eastern aquifers that it has exclusive access to, but instead siphons off water from the western aquifers that Israel uses?
Just one example of the PA's water war on Israel.
The Palestinians refuse to build water treatment plants, and sewage flows out of Palestinian towns and villages directly into local streams, thereby polluting the environments and the aquifer and causing the spread of disease.
